Myopia
Myopia, or short-sightedness is a condition where your distance vision is blurry, and near objects are clear. This occurs due to the eye being slightly too long (from front to back). Therefore, the light focuses in front of the retina rather than on the retina.
Your child may complain having difficulty watching TV, struggling to read the school board, squinting to see things from a far. Myopia can be inherited or can develop over time with environmental factors, such as excessive close-up tasks.
Myopia Progression
The rate at which your child’s myopia prescription progresses can vary, according to different risk factors. It can be inherited if one or more parent is also myopic, lack of exposure to natural outdoor light, and increased close activity such as screen, games, and phones usage.
The development of myopia also depends on the age of onset. The earlier the onset of myopia the higher the risk of developing severe myopia. With prescriptions over -6.00D there is a severe risk of sight threatening conditions like retinal detachments.
Stellest® Lenses

MiSight® 1 day
Our MiSight® 1 day contact lens with ActivControl™ Technology helps slow the elongation of the eye and myopia progression, while fully correcting refractive error. It does this through the different peripheral zones in the contact lens.
Two treatment zones create myopic defocus with image focus in front of the retina, rather than behind it to slow axial elongation. The other two correction zones correct myopia in all gaze positions.
Myopia Control Management
Lifestyle changes you child can make to reduce any myopia progression are minimizing time spent on close activities such as screen, phones and games, hold these objects further away, increase time outdoors in natural light.

Our Ortho-K lenses are a special rigid gas permeable lenses that are used in the night to temporary reshape the cornea (front of the eye) so that the child experiences clear vision in the daytime. This is worn in the night only and then taken out for day-time use.
